Enna's Italian meatballs

Ingredients

Meat balls

  • 500 grams minced beef

  • 3 eggs

  • 4 tablespoons breadcrumbs

  • 4 tablespoons fresh grated Parmesan cheese

  • Pinch of salt

  • cracked pepper

  • Tomato sauce

  • 1/2 brown onion finely diced

  • 2 cloves of garlic crushed

  • 1 jar of tomato passata

  • 1/2 passata jar of water

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • Olive oil for frying 



  • Method
    1. Place all meatball ingredient into a mixing bowl.
    2. Using a wooden spoon mix the ingredients until combined
    3. Form the meatballs and fry in a little olive oil on all sides until brown
    4. Remove the browned meatballs from the pan and set aside
    5. Gently fry the onion and garlic in a bit of olive oil in the same pan until soft
    6. Return the meatballs to the pan
    7. Add the passata, water, salt and pepper. Cover the pan
    8. Bring to boil and reduce the heat to a simmer
    9. Allow to simmer for 90 minutes covered
    10. Add more water if the sauce is too dry or remove the lid if it is to watery.
    Server with fresh Italian bread and a rocket and Parmesan salad. Can also be served on a bed of pasta.
